please explain "trim" feature on front derailer
What about on the DuraAce? I have a DA triple fdr and I *think* I have a
working trim??? Either that, or something needs adjusting possibly. Sorry, didn't want to confuse the original poster by pointing out that DuraAce triple has "trim" on all three chainrings, while the rest of the line only has it on the smaller two. So yes, you have even more "trim" than the others. --Mike-- Chain Reaction Bicycles http://www.ChainReactionBicycles.com |

What about my Conti's which have both "Recommended" pressures (95psi)
and max (120 psi) pressures? I run them at 115 for everyday riding and really like the way they feel (I weigh 185). If you're talking 23c, 120psi absolutely. On a 25c tire, probably no big deal at 115 (but I'd still run at full rated pressure), and on a 28c tire you'll have a bit of a safe range. The "recommended" pressure is an absolute minimum, and also, I believe, one-half the tested blow-off psi (in other words, it may be determined for safety reasons that have nothing to do with normal riding). --Mike-- Chain Reaction Bicycles http://www.ChainReactionBicycles.com |

Does this work well enough so that you don't get chain-to-cage rub in any of the 3x9 gear combinations, even the cross-chain ones like largest chainring to large rear cog, or smallest chainring to smallest rear cog? I don't use these, but I'm thinking about Dura-Ace triple for my next bike, and I would like to *eliminate* chain rub entirely if I'm going to be laying out that kind of $$$. I hate chain rub. Dave |

The trimming function is a capability of the left shifter and not the
front derailleur. FD's are designed to work over a smooth range, without intermediate stops. Dura-Ace triple shifters DO have a trimming capability. I use it daily. The shifter might have a different number of trim positions than other Shimano models. Not that this matters, in my experience. There is a related thread on this subject recently on rec.bicyles.tech. r.b. "Gary Mishler" wrote in message news:fkX9b.486975$uu5.83706@sccrnsc04... "Mike Jacoubowsky" wrote in message ... The "trim" function on nearly all Shimano triple road groups (with the exception of DuraAce and Sora) works the same way. What about on the DuraAce? I have a DA triple fdr and I *think* I have a working trim??? Either that, or something needs adjusting possibly. Why would not there be a trim on DA, but there is on others? Thanks, Mish |
