You will not lose speed by opting for the Giro. I understand the Aero is faster than the Giro. Comfort is a matter of personal preference. I am comfortable on the P-38 (after I substituted the wimpy foam pad with a Thermarest seat pad). I am more comfortable on the Giro (Bacchetta seat not M-5). While each seat is comfortable, each seat is distinctly different in ride and feel. -- Cletus D. Lee Bacchetta Giro Lightning Voyager http://www.clee.org - Bellaire, TX USA - |

Are you anywhere near Wis?
The best thing to do is take them both for a ride (and bring your checkbook.) sj |

I just got back from WI demoed both the Volae and the Bachetta, I was on the
tour across WI so I didn't have alot of time to properly test the bikes, so gut feeling and first impressions are all I can offer, The Volae Team was interesting to ride, coming off a v-rex the laid back high BB seemed really extreme but not uncomfortable, the seat adjustment system really impressed me once you get the seat adjusted to where you like it you can remove the seat with a quick release system then put it back on exactly where you had it before really cool. The fit and finshed seemed fine, colors were dark brown metal flake I didn't like it seemed to detract from the overall look of the bike. The tires and wheels were high end and really gave you the feel of a road bike. Rolf and company have really tried to make a smoking ride here. Riding the bike was fun right away once adjusted this thing could fly, Rolf comments were that with same power output you are looking at a 5 mph increase in speed, thats a hugh increase. Anyway riding around I thought the drive train was loud but this was a demo bike not broke in yet, the seat seemed comfortable, the handle bars don't have the swing away feature so adjustment is limited they offer two different types of handle bars if you don't like the the superman profile. I had never rode with this configuration but adapted quickly I could turn around in the street but the bars hit my legs if I turned further. I always wondered what a pad on these hard shell seats were made of it was a weird plastic like material that was about and 1.5 thick looked kind of like a pad from a floor scrubber it allowed plenty of air to circulate don't know how long these hold up or how comfortable it would be on a long trip. My impression this is a go fast bike that will really blow some stink off the competition Next the Bachetta Giro since I already was riding a v-rex I thought do a more apples to apples demo, after the setup, I hoped on and immediately noticed the comfortable seat and overall refined feeling of the bike the drive train seemed quieter even though I was closer to it, the handling and performance was effortless went through the gears made some turns I felt like I could take this bike on a trip right away. This was a more comfortable feeling for me because this bike resembled what I was already riding nevertheless I liked it better than the Volae I wanted to try the Bachetta Aero but ran out of time. Got back on my 96 v-rex and headed down the road, you know the old girl fits me like an old shoe maybe I'll just give her a new paint job Kirt "Alex" wrote in message ... I was thinking of upgrading my P38 for a new Volae Team or Bacchetta Aero. Any thoughts?? I don't want to lose speed or comfort. thanks I have a P38, just purchased a Team and have abt 90 miles on it. While the P38 is a great bike, there is no comparison. The Team's ergonomics are better for me, meaning I get more power to the pedals and thus go faster for same overall effort. My speed uphill increased by 2-3 mph and my overall average speed increased by abt 2 mph from abt 15 to abt 17. I prefer the Team seat to the lawnchair style seat. The only slightly negative thing abt the Team is that it may be harder for some users to achieve a proper handle bar position because the system does not tilt. I prefer the non tilting system overall. For what its worth, I looked at the aero and took a test ride. Nice bike but $1000 was too much more for abt a 2 lb wt reduction and I thought the Team's engineering was better thought out overall, especially the seat mounting, which on the aero leaves something to be desired. The Volae bikes have a very slick system for removing the seat for transportation or working on or cleaning the bike. Seat comes off and on in seconds with no readjustment needed. Hope this helps with your decision. If anybody is interested in buying a medium, bright red P38 in quite good condition, all ultrega equiped with Rolf Vector Pro rear wheel and HED 406 front wheel, the bike's for sale. I live in seattle. |
