According to a report obtained from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the CBP officer inspected the mountain bike and felt something bulky in the tires. Officers used a narcotic-detector dog that alerted them to the possibility of contraband. After the mountain bike underwent x-ray inspection, agents removed the bike s tires and found more than two-and-a-half pounds of marijuana stuffed into the tire tubes. The pot was stated to be worth over $1300. CBP officers turned the teen over to U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement (ICE) agents. He is currently being held in the San Diego County Jail. What a fool you are Mikey. Pedestrian with a mountain bike with tires filled with weed making all mountain bikers criminals. Sure, go ahead, keep it up, this advances your cause really well.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - ""ANOTHER Criminal Mountain Biker Jailed!" What's wrong with that? It's 100% accurate. Sour grapes? You don't know if he is a mountain biker. He certainly wasn't mountain biking. He did have a mountain bike with him. Beyond that, you have no indication he was or is a mountain biker. I'm guessing you won't have the guts or brains to amend it to "Another criminal WITH a mountain bike jailed". Do you have any feet left after shooting them so many times?- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - There's no reason to have a mountain bike, unless you are a mountain biker. They aren't any good for anything else Nope. Fat tired bikes have a softer ride than standard road bikes and are widely preferred as 'city' bikes for that reason. A fat tired bike with lots of gears and upright handle bars are frequently called "mountain bikes" whether they are used for what is called "mountain biking". -- too expensive, Nope. Mountain bikes, or rather fat tired bikes with lots of gears and upright handle bars are available in department stores for in the range of $100. wrong tires, Nope. See above too much friction & rolling resistance, etc. Nope. See above again. The ride outweighs the very small penalty in rolling resistance (there is no friction difference except rolling resistance) for broken pavement riding in cities. You know I'm right. You just don't want to admit it. Nope. You are wrong on all counts and just don't want to admit it.- Hide quoted text - - Show quoted text - You don't know what you are talking about. "Fat" street tires are not "mountain biking" tires. They aren't knobby. The knobs slow you down and waste energy. The same goes for the suspension. It also adds to the cost. Only an idiot would ride a mountain bike on the street. Hey, that describes mountain bikers perfectly! According to mountain bike experts (who sell them), mountain bikes that won;'t fall apart when ridden on a trail start at about $600. A bit much, just to ride around town.... Mountain biking experts talk about mountain biking and the equipment necessary. Agreed. However, none of that negates what I said. Just go look in the sporting good section of your local Wal-Mart. You'll find bicycles that your average cop or reporter will describe as "mountain bikes"... for $100 or so. Many of them do indeed have knobby tires. And again, the people (kids) who ride them think they look 'cool' and have no notion of the increased rolling resistance, which is indeed present. And... THEY ARE NOT MOUNTAIN BIKERS. I might point out that NONE of the articles which you post identify the brand and model of the "mountain bikes" used in the "criminal activities" which you report as being perpetrated by "criminal mountain bikers". In the future please do so, so that we can ascertain if these perpetrators are indeed "real" mountain bikers so that we can vilify them or if they are just 'wannabes' and are really just criminals on bikes that look like mountain bikes. Oh, and don't start off your reply with the statement, "You don't know what you are talking about..." because I do, and you can, if you really want to impress people, check my facts before you spew off at the mouth. |

ANOTHER Criminal Mountain Biker Jailed!

There's no reason to have a mountain bike, unless you are a mountain biker. As far as I can tell the majority of bikes sold these days are mountain bikes - or rather mountain bike shaped objects, they cost as little as $99. It's extremely unlikely that any of these so-called "criminal mountain bikers" are riding a bike that an actual mountain biker would ride, unless they have stolen it. Not many criminals are going to ride bikes with four-figure price tags. If you're now defining mountain bikers as only those who ride bikes primarily suited to trail riding then you're going to have a busy week cancelling your posts from the last few years. -- Guy |

He hasn't done his homework yet on this argument. That may be why he hasn't replied yet to my post. We'll need to see what he comes up with. |
