Default Hire Bike and momentum

Hi All,
debating whether to take my own light bike on plane to ride down the Danube or us a hire bike.
one argument for the hire is that on a totally flat route the heavier bike picks up more momentum and allows you to maintain a higher speed more easily. Is this a reasonable argument.

Yes. Whilst on a continental tour myself and a similarly fully-laden
colleague were able to keep up with some light-weight racers along a
meandering riverside road. They wimped out and took a mountain road.
