Default Fewer cyclists would be killed if cars were made safer.

"More than 700 deaths and serious injuries on UK roads could be
prevented if all cars were fitted with the latest safety equipment,
according to a new study.

Researchers analysed accidents going back a decade, and concluded that
hundreds of thousands of crashes could be prevented if cars had
'autonomous emergency braking' where the car stops on its own..."

Not in your lifetime.

Not even in the lifetime of your children (if any).

Technology just isn't reliable enough for the risk of aberrant "emergency
braking" in the overtaking lane of the M1 to be risked.

Not required - just install 20mph zones enforced by severe humps and
watch the casualty figures plummet.
It's cheap and it works.

You better tell Ford, Subaru, Lexus, Volvo etc. They need to know now.

New Ford Focus Hatchback:-
"As is Forward Alert, which warns of an impending crash, buzzing up a
visual and audible alert. It can even apply the brakes to help
minimise an impact."

So many pedestrians must die or be injured just because motorway
idiots can't keep it in their trousers and there is a minute chance of
a technical failure? Are speeding sales reps worth more than peds?
Perhaps it can be turned off on motorways, so ****wits can kill each
other without involving decent people.

No doubt an attractive proposition for the necessarily--highly-graded market
for "executive cars" in the fleet market. That's the way the regional sales
director will be able to rejoice in his rank-related upgrade over the
entitlements of mere sales directors.

Meanwhile, among the tens of millions of existing vehicles on Planet Earth,
and bearing in mind that a £9,000 SEAT or Citroen will never be equipped
(whether as OEM or retro-fitting) with that technology, get you head out of
the clouds, eh?

Oh, and the regional toilet hygiene director wants you on line 3.

Technology just isn't reliable enough for the risk of aberrant "emergency
braking" in the overtaking lane of the M1 to be risked.

What?

and there is a minute chance of a technical failure?

"Minute chance(s) of technical failure" is/are the very stuff of every
vehicle recall there ever was.

Are speeding sales reps worth more than peds?

"Speeding"?

Who said anything about speeding?

I know that *you* did, but perhaps I shouild make my meaning clearer: "Who of
any importance said anything about speeding?".

Perhaps it can be turned off on motorways, so ****wits can kill each
other without involving decent people.

"Perhaps it can be turned off".

Bingo. There's yet hope that you might come to terms with reality.

I agree.
The most important mechanical components are the nut behind the steering
wheel and the spoke on the bicycle seat. If these components are well
maintained and functioning well and within tolerances then there would be
very few mishaps.

Be even safer if the cyclists ****ed off and left to the roads to
motorists.

One day you will learn that a push bike simply isn't a suitable form of
transport on modern roads.

It is.

No motorists are quite adept at killing each other as they at killing
pedestrians and cyclists.

I would agree about modern roads, they are not nearly safe enough for
any road user, Mainly due to the high speeds and poor driving
standards allowed. But what choice does a cyclist have?

It should be evident to you though that cycling is here to stay and
has been for a very long time. Indeed some consider its invention and
use to be high on a list of human achievements, much more so than
cars.

Made me laugh when a driver on the radio said his arms were sore at
having to battle high winds in Scotland!
Poor thing.

What a shame the DOT don't agree with you halfwit;

"The number of cyclists killed or seriously injured (KSI) fell by 51 per
cent from 5,240 in 1979 to 2,565 in 2008, with a 64 per cent drop in
deaths from 320 to 115 (see chart) – this compares with a 67 per cent
fall in overall KSI and a 60 per cent fall in overall road deaths".

They could **** off & leave the roads to viable forms of transport.

has been for a very long time. Indeed some consider its invention and
