Default car vs. bike road rage on the rise?

I don't if it's just a slow news year, but does it seem like media
coverage of car vs. bike road rage incidents have gone up
dramatically?

Keep in mind virtually all the following incidents happened last year,
but are just going to trial now.

- There's that ex-emergency room Doctor who's being tried for
intentionally taking out two cyclists:
http://www.velonews.com/article/9951...-trial-resumes
- There's that cop who tasered a couple of cyclists for not stopping
(also covered extensively on Bicycling.com):
http://www2.irontontribune.com/news/...l-rights-case/
- There's another cop who tackled a Critical Mass rider in NYC
http://cityroom.blogs.nytimes.com/20...al-mass-video/

These are just the ones that come to mind. What's going on? Is this
just coincidence or is this a trend?

Dear Damyth,

Same old, same old:

"In August, 1876, for instance, the driver of the St. Albans' coach
lashed with his whip a bicyclist who was passing, while the guard, who
had provided himself beforehand with an iron ball on the end of a
rope, threw it between the spokes of the machine and dragged it and
the rider to the ground. For this assault the driver was fined £2, the
guard £5, and a further penalty imposed of £10 for the damage of the
machine."

Truly an ancient clipping, as they never once mention
whether she was wearing her seat-belt.

It's not clear that article is about road rage per se. It sounds like
an irresponsible person was behind the wheel, (revoked license), hit &
run, etc. The incident was serious, but the article did not say the
driver went out of way to intentionally harm cyclists. Contrast that
with my original post where I cited three incidents where people went
*out of their way* to harm cyclists. Something is rotten in Denmark.

Thanks. I missed your point earlier.

Warning to motor vehicle pilots: Don't cut off cyclists:

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/c...0,399292.story

"...CTA bus operator Ricardo Mendoza, who said he was
punched by Thomas O'Grady Sept. 12 because O'Grady allegedly
thought Mendoza cut him off in Loop traffic while O'Grady
was riding a bicycle."

Hey, she was arrested in my home town maybe a mile or two from where I
grew up. Looking at the satellite pictures, that neighborhood has
upgraded quite a bit from when I was a kid. Not a bike-friendly part of
the world.

Yeah, hope and change. That stuff sucks. Much better to decide "this
is as good as it gets, might as well get used to it."
